With a score of 5.5 points out of 6 games Dutch GM Erik van den Doel (FIDE rating 2587) has won the seventh edition of the ROC Nova College Tournament. Van den Doel stayed half a point clear of GM Ikonnikov, GM Miezis, IM Van Oosterom and IM Peelen by beating Alexandre Dgebuadze in the final round. On his way to victory Van den Doel only had to concede a draw against young IM Robin Swinkels, who ended on a shared sixth place one point behind Van den Doel.
Van den Doel won the tournament previously in 1994 (at the age of 15) and in 1998 (with a perfect score of 6 out of 6). The tournament was then called the AKN Weekend Tournament. ROC Nova College has been the head sponsor since 2002 and announced at the opening ceremony that the successful tournament will be continued until 2013 at least.
